Send me “Goodbye” for the last voice message my muse leaves for yours before they die.

The girl went to go pick up the phone and dial in the numbers to Bae. She didn’t have very long but she had to say goodbye, she couldn’t leave him alone without knowing what had happened to her. As Wendy waited for him to pick up, all she really got was his voice mail making her heart sink just a little. She needed him right now even if it was to hear his voice for one last time. She licked at her bottom lip and slid down against the wall and waited for the answering machine to beep so she could begin.

“Hey.” She began already becoming a mess. “I have a couple things to tell you and after you get this, you have to promise that you won’t come looking for me.” She looked at her fingers that shivered and shook in her lap. “I’m happy that I got to see you become a great man, an even better father and get your family of your own, you of all people deserve a happy ending.” The salty water dripped from her eyes. “I won’t be around for much longer, in order to save you and your family I have to do something that would seem rather foolish.” Wendy held her breath to take in all the words she was saying. “I love you and you’ll always be my family.” She hiccuped, wiping away the tears from her cheeks. “Please don’t forget about me, Bae.” She breathed slowly. “Goodbye.”

Why couldn’t she have been stronger? Why couldn’t she be more like Emma? She was so strong and heroic, she resembled everything that was brave in the world. Wendy though, she was broken, she now had nightmares and anxieties from her time spent on Neverland. It was hard to forget a place where you spent centuries at with non stop screaming with bloody knuckles, dirty feet and cries that filtered through her muffled ears at night.

“I miss you too.” Bae was her everything. He meant so much to her, he was her family just like her brothers and that meant she would do anything and everything for him. “And I do want to go home, I want to be with everyone, be happy again.” Being able to see John and Michael, see how they had grown up and how great they had become warmed her heart to no end.

She shook her head with a smile. “But you do have that, you’ve been through so much with family yet you have this positive outlook on things and Henry—” She paused. “—you came back for him when you didn’t have to, you care far deeper than anyone.” Wendy held her breath and closed her eyes. She wanted to save everyone but if there was a way without her having to do that then she would.

Wendy nodded her head. “I’ll hang on.” She squeaked and brushed the tears back. “It hurts though.” She licked her cracked pale lips. “Ohana means family and that means no one’s left behind, right?” She put her chin on her knee. “Please hurry though.”

“You will go home, Wendy. I promise you that.”

Now that those words had been spoken, he would see to it even more that they would be fulfilled; especially after what had come to pass between him and his father the day he had opened the portal, Neal had sworn to never break a promise again. He’d done so once with Emma, a mistake he was still looking to fix, but he wasn’t about to let Wendy down, too. Despite the situation, he managed to conjure up a smile; even though she wouldn’t be able to see it through the phone, he was sure she’d be able to hear it in his voice.

“We’re lookin’ to catch Pan’s Shadow. Hook’s offered up his ship as a vessel to get back to Storybrooke; if we managed to catch the Shadow, we’ll have a surefire way back home.”

He paused for a moment, realizing that she would probably think the only people Hook had invited onto his ship were Emma and her family, but that was far from the truth. Even if he had to battle Hook over it, which he doubted he would, he would make sure Wendy would have a spot on the Jolly Roger. In stead of letting the fact that he hadn’t discussed said matters with Hook just yet shimmer through, he decided to make a joke out of it.

“Hope you don’t get seasick. Your brothers are waiting for you, back in Storybrooke. We’ve had contact with people there, they’ve been looking to bring you home for years.”
