Lips stretched into a smile, laughing quietly. Something told her that they were going to get along quite well. And though she had little to no intentions of prolonging their company, she was going to make the most of it for as long as she can. Being on the run and always looking over her shoulders was a lonely life so she indulged on whatever company she could get,
”At least you know how to have fun
and you’re not a bore.”The thief gave a meek shrug of her shoulders, though her smile was almost as bright as the glint in her eyes. Sometimes she regrets running away from the system. But then again, she loved this freedom to do anything she wanted more. Sure it was sometimes hard and there were some good days and bad days, but she would not trade this for the world.
Settling down was out of the question because she had no reasons to. Nothing and no one to tie her down. She did not need that, or so she told herself. It was too much trouble, too much restrictions. Being on the move was a lot less painful than being in a place where she knew she was not truly wanted.
Her stomach almost gave a growl at the thought of food. When was the last time she even had a real meal? Stolen goods were hardly enough since she only snagged what she could manage without getting caught. And sometimes dine and dashing was more difficult than others.
“A grilled cheese sandwich,” there was no hesitation in her answer. There was something about a grilled cheese that made her feel safe. Maybe because it was something she used to eat a lot when she was a kid in the one home where she actually felt wanted. But the family was an old couple and she made it so that she would be taken away because it was hard watching them struggle financially for her sake.
“Boredom ain’t even in my dictionary.”
The notion was yet again accompanied by a mischievous grin, one that seemed to be permanently plastered onto his face for at least the duration of the conversation. If he were to take a mental step back from the situation and take a look at what was going on, he had to admit to himself that he hadn’t smiled this much, or for this long in one go, in a very long time. Thriving off thievery was serious business, hardly any time to joke around, let alone spend time in the company of a woman—a woman who appeared to be in the same line of business as he was.
As he looked her in the eyes whilst she spoke, he took note of the fact that she seemed very similar to him, closed off when it comes to private matters, yet very suave and perhaps a little cheeky in conversation. Independent, no doubt, and if he had to make an estimated guess, just as much on the run from the everyday drag of life as he was. He hadn’t thought of it before, but these were all qualities he rather liked in a woman. Or at least this woman, apparently.
Her answer to his question came without hesitation, and it only caused his grin to widen. She was determined, a woman who knew what she wanted all too well, something he had always admired in people. He didn’t like doubters, or people who dragged out a conversation due to insecurity. She was very straight to the point, easy-going. Perfectly fit for conversation with him.
“Alright, grilled cheese it is.”
And with that, his stomach growled at him, as if to make a statement. Two grilled cheese, apparently.
