“Mostly little things. Food from a gas station, clothes from a shop. I tend to stick with small jobs mostly.”

She thanked the bartender as he handed her another glass. Taking a sip, she turned back to Neal. The idea of graduating up to larger jobs was appealing. She could get away with a couple large jobs instead of the million small jobs she’d done and still come out on top.

“Right place? Like the right mindset?” She laughed a bit before shaking her head, “I may not be a pro but it’s not like I don’t know what I’m doing.”

She was curious just what he had in mind to teach her. Though she hoped it was more than just how to steal. She had noticed how attractive he was but she also knew that it could be a bad idea to mix business with pleasure.

“Well, then I reckon we’ll start small.”

Whereas Neal had been serious throughout his questioning of Emma, he now displayed a small grin upon the notion of taking her out for small jobs. It had been a while since he’d engaged in petty thievery, and truth be told, he could use a break from risky, larger jobs and go back to basics. He’d never worked with a partner before, so starting over seemed like a good idea.

“It’s different when there’s two people. Y'know, more cause for suspicion, gotta be careful not to alert anyone. We’ll have to come up with a good situational story.”

Narrowing his eyes just a little, he looked her over, chewing on the inside of his cheek with an absent look as he took everything into consideration. Having a woman for a partner had its perks, but he doubted her puppy eyes were going to get them out of every situation, especially since he did have the rag-tag type of thieving exterior that would alert sellers to something being stolen from their store. They needed to work on a good story, something nobody would question—aha.

“How good’re you at pretending you’re pregnant?”
